Software Engineer - Ruby on Rails


Alpha are excited to be looking for our first software engineering hire to help build our motorsport event management suite of products. We are looking for a full stack Ruby On Rails developer with at least 2 years commercial experience to turbo-charge our development velocity as Alpha grows rapidly both in the UK and aboard.

You will become a key player helping us to take our products to the next level in terms of functionality, speed and customer satisfaction. You will help to develop our suite of motorsport event products: the event management system, our high-throughput live timing & streaming applications, the results site and scrutineering systems. Our goal is to make Alpha the default choice across the world for motorsport event organisers, competitors, officials, fans and other associated parties.

Core skills
  • Full-stack RoR developer with a passion for crafting readable re-usable code
  • A good understanding of relational databases and query optimisation
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git
  • A good understanding of web development patterns
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Thoughtful, pro-active can-do attitude
  • Pragmatic and happy to take an existing software suite to the next level
Nice to haves
  • A passion for motorsport
  • React and Javascript / Typescript experience
  • Experience building for mobile apps
  • Experience in UI / UX 
  • Ability to work 1-2 days a week in our Dartford office though fully-remote will be considered

Customer Support Representative (full time / part time)


Alpha's new Customer Support Representatives  will help our ever-expanding client base to maximise their use of our software. You will become an integral part of our team that champions our customers. You will be tasked with ensuring prompt attention, friendly communication, and thoughtful resolution of all client interactions both via email and over the phone. You are driven to go the extra mile to make an experience special. You are comfortable adapting to our ever-shifting priorities as we support rapid growth and change in our products. You love making a difference through your work and are always looking for ways to improve the customer experience.  You will also be required to provide training to new customers, create and update user guides and other training materials and communicate issues to the development team.

Our customers operate seven days a week, and sometimes run late into the evening. The role will require regular weekend (1 in 3) and regular evening work. This position is open for full time / part time positions.

Outcomes
  • Respond to customer emails efficiently while maintaining quality and empathy.
  • Help customers with urgent queries over the phone.
  • Keep internal and external knowledge bases and documentation up to date.
  • Identify patterns in bug reports and feature requests and escalate appropriately.

Nick was born with a pencil in his hand and brings decades of design skills to Alpha. In his free time he likes to make drum and bass music and travel
Enver Meyer
SALES
Enver has more than a decade's worth of experience running go-karting venues in the UK and brings all of that knowledge to Alpha to help us make the best software for the UK leisure industry.
Jono Holland
SUPPORT
Jono brings a wealth of teaching experience to his role as Alpha's chief of support having had a varied career in local government, the police and more recently as a driving instructor. In his free time he enjoys racing karts at his local club in Suffolk.
